Jump Training Programs

Choosing the right jump training program

Increasing your vertical jump height to become a better basketball or volleyball athlete can be achieved through targeted training. There are a lot of training programs available online but you should learn how to separate the good from the bad ones. Enumerated below are some of the characteristics that you should look for in a program to judge whether or not it could give you the best results possible:

1. Does it promote a multi-faceted approach? The body is a complex system of systems working together in any physical activity that you do. A multi-faceted approach to higher jump training ensures that all aspects of the jump are trained and nurtured to achieve the maximum possible gains.

2. Does it emphasize injury prevention? This aspect in itself may be approach on a multi-faceted manner— either through core conditioning, nutrition, appropriate stretching exercises, etc. A higher jump training program that doesn’t place a lot of importance to this aspect does not make the cut.

3. Does it offer realistic gains? A program claiming fantastic gains without the sound principles to back it up is pure rubbish. A good program should be honest about all possible outcomes of your training. Depending on your baseline jump skills coupled with your current physical conditioning and (most importantly) your adherence to the training regimen, it is pretty realistic to achieve a gain of at approximately 1 inch per week. Programs that claim gains more than that may be overly fantastic.

4. Does it feature adequate one-on-one support from the trainer? This is especially important if you are going for online vertical jump training courses. No two athletes are exactly the same and an online training program that does not have provisions for adapting to the unique needs of every athlete is not worth your money. A good online training course should provide, at the very least, email/chat support for one-on-one coaching from the jump trainer because one nagging question in your mind while you are training can slow your progress down, or worse, lead to an injury. If you have a question, you should have an available avenue where you can get answers quickly. A good example would be the Jump Manual which provides one-on-one support through forums, email and chat support/correspondence to give you customized training regimen that should maximize your progress.

Learning how to jump higher should not be a hurried and careless endeavor. Sound training principles accompanied by adequate support from a trainer is a must when choosing the right program. There are a lot of free and paid programs on the internet which could do more harm than good if you do not know what you’re doing. The above guide on what to look for should help you decide which training program to get.
