How to Choose a Jump Higher Training Program
If you are a basketball and volleyball player trying to learn how to jump higher through the help of information found on the Internet, then I am certain that you are now suffering from information overload is probably having a hard time making heads or tails of the same information.
There are just a lot of crappy, rehashed and misinformed websites out there that claim to teach people how to jump higher for basketball but all they do is convince the athlete trying to get legitimate information.
So I came up with the following guide on how to choose the right program so that you stop wasting your time on inaccurate and false information and spend it instead actually training for the improvement of your vertical jumps which will in turn improve your athletic skills:
1. A good vertical jumping program must not only emphasize exercising the muscles you use directly for executing those jumps (like the fast twitch leg muscles) but also those that you use for stability such as your core muscles. Strength training of the core muscles involve not just the abdominal muscles but a number of groups that is known to be critical in the stability of the spine, pelvis and shoulders and the rest of the human torso. A program that neglects the importance of core strengthening is not worth your time.
2. A good program must take time to explain how and when to do the correct exercises. There’s a ton of information on the Internet about the many kinds of jump higher drills that is supposed to help you jump higher. Be careful about those information. While those exercises may feel right when you do them, many of them may be the wrong way to train. Remember that vertical jumps are activities that involve explosive action. Hence, one clue as to whether a recommended exercise is the right sort for you is if it really trains for explosiveness. Workout regimens that promote endurance may not be correct for this type of training.
3. A good program must involve a multi-faceted approach. Actually, all athletic training must be multi-faceted. This is very important because the human body is composed of many many different aspects that need attention when you are training for your sport. All of them are important and nurturing all of them will help you maximize your chances of reaching your true potential. If the program does not teach you on how to deal with the mind (psychological motivation, discipline) aspect of sports training, along with the nutrition and safety or injury prevention, think twice before adopting that program for yourself.
4. A good program must have a good author. The preferable jumping program, especially those that can be acquired online, must be authored by professional trainers that really understand their stuff. The trainer/author credentials must be scrutinized. I find that the most effective trainers are those that offer/give one-on-one coaching. After all, no two athletes are born with the same athletic level so each one must be given a regimen that is a bit different from the others and which adapts to whatever reaction or changes the athlete shows as an ongoing results of the training. A good jump trainer must be very reachable as to be able to give you specific advice at any given time. For online training regimens, this can be achieved via email, chat, forums, or via the phone.
There are a lot of programs out there that claim to be effective in increasing your vertical jump but you must not take those claim as gospel. Take time to do your due diligence and read the fine print and know the author/trainer first. The preceding guide should be a good starting point to help choose the best program for you.
